Transparent. Minimal. No surprises. Here's exactly how PIS Tester handles data.

1. Who We Are

PIS Tester (https://pistester.com) is a free friendship quiz maker. You create a 10-question quiz about yourself and share it with friends who try to guess your answers. The site is built and operated by the 345tool Team, an independent developer collective.

We follow a minimal data principle: we only store what's technically required to make the quiz work — a display name you choose, your quiz content, and friends' submitted answers and scores. Nothing else.

To operate the quiz service, the following is stored in a MySQL database:

  • Creator display name — the name you enter when making a quiz. Visible to anyone who takes your quiz. Use any name; it does not need to be real.
  • Quiz questions and answers — the 10 questions and your selected answers. Answers are stored server-side for scoring. Questions (without answers) are visible to quiz takers.
  • Friends' display names and answer selections — names friends enter and the options they picked. Visible on the leaderboard.
  • Score — number of correct guesses (0–10), calculated server-side.

All data is tied to an 8-character random quiz ID. There are no user accounts, no passwords, and no persistent profiles.

4. How We Use the Data

Stored data is used exclusively to power the quiz functionality: displaying the quiz to friends, scoring their answers against yours, and populating the leaderboard and friend tier list. Data is not used for marketing, profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose beyond running the quiz.

5. What We Never Collect

  • Email addresses or phone numbers — no registration exists.
  • Passwords — no accounts.
  • Real names or identity documents — you pick any display name.
  • Payment information — the service is free. No payment system.
  • Precise location — no GPS or IP geolocation storage.
  • Social media profiles — no OAuth or social login integrations.
  • Behavioral data — no cross-site tracking cookies, no fingerprinting.

6. Browser Storage

PIS Tester uses your browser's localStorage and sessionStorage for two purposes only:

  • Owner identification — a random token is saved in localStorage so you can access your quiz results when returning to the same link from the same browser.
  • Answer progress — your in-progress answer selections are saved in sessionStorage so you don't lose them if you accidentally navigate away. This data is cleared when you close the tab.
  • Theme preference — your light/dark mode choice is persisted in localStorage.

None of this data is transmitted to our server. It stays entirely in your browser.

7. Google Analytics (GA4)

We use a minimal Google Analytics 4 tag (G-140B124ZZW) for aggregated traffic metrics: page view counts, approximate geography (country/city from anonymized IP), browser and device categories, and traffic source types.

GA4 never receives: quiz content, display names, scores, or any user-submitted data. You can opt out via browser privacy settings, ad blockers, or Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

8. Third-Party Services

PIS Tester loads these external resources to render the interface:

  • Google Fonts — fonts (DM Sans, Space Grotesk, Sora) and Material Symbols icons via fonts.googleapis.com.
  • Google Analytics — GA4 library via googletagmanager.com.

We do not embed: social media widgets (share buttons use plain URLs), external login services, advertising networks, comment systems, or any API that shares quiz content with third parties.

9. Server Access Logs

Our Nginx web server maintains standard access logs for operational stability and security. These may record: IP address, browser User-Agent, requested URL, HTTP status code, response size, and timestamp. Logs are retained for up to 90 days and rotated automatically. This is standard practice across all websites; logs are decoupled from quiz content.

10. API Rate Limiting

API endpoints use lightweight IP-based rate limiting to prevent abuse. Temporary counters are stored as files and expire when the rate window resets (60 seconds). No persistent record is kept beyond that window.

11. Data Retention & Deletion

Quiz creators can delete their quiz and all associated data (all friends' answers and scores) at any time from the same browser they used to create it. Deletion is permanent and cascading — removing the quiz removes all attempt records.

Individual attempts can be deleted by the quiz creator from the leaderboard. Players cannot delete their own submissions after submitting; contact the quiz creator or email us for removal.

We reserve the right to periodically purge inactive quiz data as part of routine database maintenance. No automatic deletion policy is currently enforced.

12. Cookies

PIS Tester does not set first-party cookies. Google Analytics may set third-party cookies per its own policies. We do not use cookies for authentication, session tracking, advertising, or any functional purpose.

13. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA, COPPA)

GDPR (EU/EEA): We process minimal personal data (display names only). You may exercise access, rectification, or deletion rights by contacting [email protected].

CCPA (California): We do not sell, rent, or share personal information. No behavioral advertising or cross-context tracking takes place.

COPPA (Under 13): We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The platform has no chat, no accounts, no comments, and no mechanism for submitting personal data beyond a display name.

14. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the service or legal requirements. The latest version is always at https://pistester.com/privacy. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance.
